The Situation
Bible Chat (Bookvitals, Inc.), a Delaware C-Corp with deep roots in Romania, was on a fast-growth track. The company, led by founder Laurentiu Victor Balasa, had raised capital from multiple investors across several countries, backed by his reputation for delivering results.
Laurentiu was referred to Tukel Accounting by long-time client Alexandru Circei (Waydev). He had tried working with other firms but felt unsupported.
The product – a B2C SaaS platform – was strong, and the company was growing 12% month-over-month, largely fueled by paid advertising and aggressive acquisition strategies.
But behind the scenes, things were complex:
- A U.S. parent company with a fully operational Romanian subsidiary
- Millions in spending flowing through Romania, triggering attention from local tax authorities
- Growing investor expectations
- And no dedicated in-house CFO or finance team
Laurentiu needed more than just compliance. He needed a partner who could see the whole field – taxes, legal structure, investor optics, burn rate, ROI, and exit-readiness.
The Journey
The first priority was building a solid financial and operational foundation in the U.S.
We took over the company’s U.S. accounting, tax, payroll, and compliance while coordinating transfer pricing, intercompany agreements, and legal structures across the U.S. and Romania to ensure the business could scale without creating future compliance risks.
With the operational side under control, our role quickly expanded into strategic CFO advisory through biweekly meetings with Laurentiu. Rather than simply reviewing financial reports, we focused on the decisions that would have the greatest long-term impact on the business.
One of the biggest decisions was fundraising. After analyzing unit economics and customer churn, we advised against raising capital too early, allowing the company to strengthen its fundamentals before seeking additional investment.
We also helped the company avoid expensive financing. Rather than accepting debt carrying interest rates above 35%, we worked with Laurentiu to evaluate alternatives and negotiate financing at under 20%, significantly reducing the long-term cost of capital.
As the business continued growing at around 12% month-over-month, our conversations shifted from growth at all costs to building a healthier, more valuable company. Together, we moved the focus beyond customer acquisition by reducing churn, increasing the conversion of free users into paying customers, and improving customer lifetime value, helping ensure growth remained sustainable rather than simply fast.
Beyond day-to-day financial decisions, we advised on longer-term strategic questions, including intellectual property ownership, revenue centralization, and cross-border corporate structure.
Over time, we became the company’s U.S. finance team at the holding-company level, coordinating legal, tax, accounting, and strategic financial decisions across multiple jurisdictions as the business continued to scale.
The Transformation
Over the years, Bible Chat (Bookvitals, Inc.) has remained:
- Structurally aligned for a high-value exit
- Guided through complex decisions on funding, team investment, and monetization
- Supported by legal and accounting strategies on both sides of the Atlantic
- Fully compliant with all U.S. tax and payroll obligations
- Backed by a partner that doesn’t just record history, but helps shape it
Behind these outcomes is a long-term strategic partnership.
